Mountain Golf

Wednesday, September 29th, 2004

The country of Korea is pretty much 35% mountain so pretty much every golf course nationwide is built on a mountain. So in Korea, when they say elevated tee, they really mean it. Take a look at this ride!

Seoul Cribs

It’s here! The long awaited HOME EDITION:

The quality is not better homes and gardens but i have to admit, i don’t have the staff they do or the equipment… And some special lenses would have helped because though my place is a “3″ bedroom, it’s small enough where most rooms can’t actually be fully captured with a regular camera. So just follow the map of which picture is which angle and use your imagination to fill in the rest!

Enjoy! GO

Dog Sitting

Friday, September 24th, 2004

The official start of Choosuck… the Korean Thanksgiving Holiday and probably one of the most important holidays all year for koreans, followed by Lunar New Year. The city has slowly emptied out, but left behind are these two tiny little dogs that my buddy left for me to dog-sit while he suns himself in Hawaii. Now everyone that knows me knows that i love dogs… and though i have a preference for big dogs and Rotweillers, i do love all dogs… but there two, have affirmed my love for the larger canine species. These two small white things jump up and down, bark all day, cry all night and are generally whiny all the time. To boot they’re sisters. So what do you think their names are? That’s right… PARIS and NICKI! I can’t tell them apart but true to form, Paris is the yappy one and Nicki is the licker. ugh, help me!

HongDae Club Day

Friday, September 24th, 2004

Today was friday. The last friday of the month. And in Seoul, that can only mean one thing – Club Day in Hongdae! The rockin’ happenin’ place in Seoul where movers and shakers from all over the city go to get their freak on. Nice dinner, walk on a beautiful fall day and the freak was on… more to come later :)

Suits and Ties

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

It’s been a busy, busy week. Recovering from HK meetings and Davide’s whirlwind trip through Seoul. Today was one of the minimal 2 times during the year in which i need to tranform myself into semi-responsible adult, drap myself in a soft fabric of a nice suit and convince others the vision is true, on track and in line. The Board of Directors Meeting. Our local korean board, not nearly as daunting as the Nike, Inc. board but still none-the-less, success is critical. And the bonus was I got to meet my other new boss (that would be 2 in as many weeks). Jim, the footwear genius from Japan is coming to Korea to take the helm and lead us to the promise land. The first white guy in the office and he’s running the place. Should be interesting! I’ll keep you posted.

Chillin’ in Hong Kong

Thursday, September 16th, 2004

Spending the week in Hong Kong for some meetings. This is a pretty damn cool town. Not only is it packed with just over six million people, but the composition of the geography between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island is amazing… Basically, the South China Sea cuts the two apart forming what appears to be a big river but is in fact a small bay. We stayed at on the Kowloon side (Room View) at the InterCon which has an amazing view of Hong Kong Island… as well as a great boardwalk.

The first night we took a magnificent boat ride down the river to a floating restaurant. Traditional Chinese meal with 13 courses… but a typical tourist attraction. Like Tarvern on the Green… great experience, so-so food. BUT, the boat ride back in the middle of the night with a slight summer breeze was sweet! The second night we hit Aqua and it was amazing. Delicious food but a view to kill for. 30 stories up, facing HK. This was the room we ate in. Afterwards we went out for Model Night which is a humorous but uneventful story for another time.

I’ve been to HK a couple of times but when I was younger. This was the first time I got to experience it a *little* – very little, but i’m planning on heading back…

/ For the FULL Effect, check out this Panoramic I pieced together of the view of Hong Kong Island.

/ A view of one of the many shopping streets of Kowloon.

/ One of the many worker boats you see trolling up and down the bay.

/ The boardwalk lined with chinese laterns.

/ A fellow CHOW on the Walk of Fame.

/ No caning here, but they take the Gum Thing pretty seriously.

/ Classic old school boat on the bay.

/ The Industrial Side of HK: Shipping Yards

/ HK Financial Center, part of the Iconic Skyline.

/ A country of emerging wealth? YOU THINK?

Crazy Korean Cranes

Saturday, September 11th, 2004

It’s funny how some things are just different in other parts of the world. Even a simple thing like moving can be approached in a variety of ways we’ve never thought of. I currently live in an 8 story building (HOME EDITION COMING IN A COUPLE WEEKS) with an elevator, but as I was leaving my apartment this morning, i noticed my neighbors being moved in… VIA CRANE! Yep, just a little mini-crane / ramp contraption that was hauling stuff up and down… odd. Check it out: The crane from afar and up close.

Gucci Strip Tease

Tuesday, September 7th, 2004

The Holiday season is here… but before all the shopping, snowing or christmas carolers it’s time to unveil the Gucci line. Sorry, no pictures during the actual show or of the line, but i managed to snap a goodie for you. The show was typical Gucci – very black and white (more black). No stage but a packed house of models, fashionistas and us! The theme was mod-70′s with a rich/sleazy feel. The kind of Studio 54 guys and girls that spend their leisure time at strip clubs drinking golden drinks and petting each other. With that, Gucci managed to take a show over the top again by telling the story better than anyone else. To cap off the show theme, they brought out strippers to dance around the mysterious poles found throughout the venue. WooHoo!

50 Days at Nike Korea

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004

50 days on the job in Seoul and it was time for the ceremonial team dinner. The Forced Fun that you all know that I dispise but am now in the position to facilitate… ugh. It was good fun. An amazingly authentic chinese restaurant… with some solid food, a lot of drink and some good fun. Hopefully a mini-milestone in my time here.

After dinner we hit a Tent Bar. Now this is a new concept here in Seoul that’s catching on and is a testament to what eased alcohol permits brings. This place is a car garage by day… at night, they roll out some tables, project some TV on the wall and serve up the food and drink…
