There are good days. There are bad days. Today was a good day.

Mini pkm Gallery Show

Sunday, August 29th, 2004

A change of pace for this weekend. An amazing exhibit at pkm gallery by HAMJIN. This guy apparently has or had autism and has a gift for meticulous crafting. He makes the most intricate and detailed figures out of clay on a scale so smale, it’s almost impossible to take pictures of with a regular camera (but of course i tried).

The key to understanding the amazement of this work, is understanding the relative scale and detail of this work. As an initial benchmark, look at this.. [here] yes, it’s a bellybutton. And this one is an actual fly. Many of the other pictures were actually taken through a magnifying glass using various items for scale.

/ What I’m sure we looked like viewing the exhibit

/ In the Grass with my ring for scale

/ On the Can

/ Butts and Poop

/ Working in the Garden

/ Baby Crawler with my hand for scale

An extremely enlightening evening with some very nice people. VJ DJ EJ’s sister is the curator so I look forward to more exciting and creative exhibits… and so should you. cheers :)

Jenny and Albert come to Town

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

Had my first visitor. Albert and Jenny stopped over from Tokyo before heading back to the states. HOW FUCKIN’ COOL IS THAT. It was great to see my old Bergen Catholic HS buddy. It’s the kind of friends like that that really make you look back on your life with amazement. The kind of friends who you’ll have forever – no matter what. Love that. A couple days and we did some usual sightseeing – which was great because I really haven’t had a chance to see much of the city.

Our first stop was Kongbuk Palace (new Sam-Chung-Dong, the place i think is so cool – like the village)

/ Me + Albert at the Great Hall

/ Voodoo Sticks – Like the Brady Bunch Tikis

THEN, we hit Gimme Five. Now this place is one of those entertainment theme restaurants where you sit, drink, talk all in the midst of a Mixed Martial Arts fight. That’s right – kickboxing, akito and a host of other fighting styles that allow two men to beat the crab out of each other while you ring up another gin + juice. PLUS, they’ve got showgirls affectionately known as Gimme Girls, who prance around in the latest fashions or dance ringside inbetween rounds.

Not that all this wasn’t odd enough (though still a grand time) but because it’s Asia, their’s a twist. Another show with exotic dancers, each one as pretty as the next. They sing, they dance, the joke… They even take pictures with the crowd (check me out:). The thing that many of you may not realize is that THESE ARE MEN from Thailand. Yes, transvestites and I must admit, for the most part – they are pretty good looking and at first glance, you’d never know their little secret. Crazy place I tell you!

Boon the Shop Party

Friday, August 27th, 2004

Another opening. Boon the Shop… some swanky, fancy, upscale metro-fashionista door. So, I donned my most metro-sexual outfit and headed out! 5 stories of the pricest garb ranging from Commes de Garcon to Manolo to Yohji – damn – nothing I can sport. Attendees included the global vp of marketing from Diesel in Italy, some supermodels who I couldn’t recognize and me, G-Hyun and Joen.

/ The Band

/ The Crew

a fairly “blah” party but what are you going to do :)

W Hotel Seoul

Wednesday, August 25th, 2004

A six star hotel? In seoul? The W! Seriously… one of a handful of 6-star hotels in the world – just what the crumbling economy of korea needs! Either way, they throw a pretty good launch party…

/ Podland Lounge

/ Pod Bathrooms

/ Pod Bathroom Inside

/ DJ Pod [inside]

… do you see an oval-like trend here?

/ VJ DJ EJ + Joen

/ Me + VJ DJ EJ [EJ thought the girl on the left has no character - what!?!?!]

/ The Sherlock Duo

A solid night overall. Ended up at a Casino only for Expats… but no Craps tables. Thank God. Lost $300 in 13 minutes… ugh! Next time… definitely.

Grape Bubblegum

Sunday, August 22nd, 2004

What does it mean when your gym constantly smells like grape bubblegum? I love it but it is the oddest aroma in the world. Do you think I’m a little old for this place?

Approved!

Thursday, August 19th, 2004

Not only does he approve it, he thinks it’s pretty fuckin’ awesome! MK told me about this new parody on bush and his campaign tv ads. It’s pretty damn good. check it out! [QT HI/LO]

Space Building

Tuesday, August 17th, 2004

Riding Ad Boards with HeeSung, we ran across the GUK SE CHUNG, which means Government Tax Administration Building. This place is magnificent if you ask me… and apparently built 100% on tax dollars. Damn!
